M813A1 5 Ton Military Cargo Truck

The 5-ton, 6x6, M809 series trucks are tactical vehicles designed for use over all types of roads. highways, and cross-country terrain. M809 series vehicles ford hardbottom water crossings up to 30 inches (76.2 centimeters) without a deepwater fording kit, and 78 inches (198.1 centimeters) with the kit. A five-speed manual transmission and a two-speed transfer provide 10 overall speed ranges. All are equipped with a rear towing pintle hook. Two front shackles and a pin on top of the rear springs provide a ready means of lifting the trucks for transportation. The M809 Series 5-ton 6x6 truck G908 was a family of heavy tactical trucks built for the United States Armed Forces. The basic cargo version was designed to transport a 5-ton (4,500 kg), 14 ft (4.3 m) long load over all terrain in all weather. In on-road service the load weight was doubled. Built by AM General, the M813 was the standard cargo version of the series. It had a 14 ft (4.3 m) long low sided box with a bottom hinged tailgate. This M813A1 is a dropside truck with side racks, troop seats, overhead bows (steel on this vehicle) and a camouflage heavy tarpaulin.An additional Extra Long wheel base tarpaulin is included in this sale. A front-mounted winch was optional and is installed on this truck. The winch is operable but requires replacement of the 200’ x 5/8" cable and terminations. The original was too badly mangled and kinked to be used safely and was removed. The standard body sides could secure a load but could not be loaded from the side by forklifts, so a body with drop sides was standardized as the M813A1. The M813A1 is powered by the Cummins NHC 250 855 CU.In., naturally aspirated, inline 6, diesel driving through a manual 5 speed transmission and two speed transfer. Front axle is actuated by the transmission shifter in low and reverse gears to provide all-wheel 6x6 traction.
