The history of the legendary American brand Jeep began in 1938 when the US Army instructed Willys Overland to create a universal vehicle that could replace the motorcycles used at that time with a sidecar. The name "Jeep" comes from the English "general purpose" (GP). Jeep's birth date is July 23, 1941, when the first Willys MB off-road vehicles were created. During the Second World War, due to its versatility and high reliability, Willys MB all-terrain vehicles found a wide field of activity. During the war years, more than 600,000 utilitarian off-road vehicles were produced. The first car, which was labeled as Jeep, was released in 1944 - it was Jeep CJ (the abbreviation CJ meant "Civilian Jeep").
