Selling my classic 1978 Grumman Olson step van. Current original miles are only 93,000! I had big plans to build a mobile workshop using this platform for a motocross company I own in Idaho. However, we’ve recently moved back to California where I am a Union Electrician & this consumes most of my day. Having said that, my big elaborate plan to build my workshop is not actually needed any longer. And though I am absolutely in love with this truck, I only cruise it around for fun here and there. It makes me happy, what can I say. I believe it would serve several different industries & recreations alike. Joining the food truck craze? Need a bulletproof work truck with plenty of headroom? Want to open a mobile boutique, a mobile skate shop? Mobile firearms? Build a camper/ toy hauler?? Let your imagination go with this thing. It’s a rare find these days, and as it gets older, it’s unique throwback styling will only become harder to find. It’s one of those trucks you see once. I know I will not find another quite like it once it’s sold. More info on the Step Van below. -1978 Grumman Olson Body: These are all aluminum and do not corrode! This was the concept behind their existence. Body is aprox. 2,600lbs of aluminum. Your neighborhood USPS mail delivery trucks were built by the same company...and are still rolling around! Grumman Olson eventually became Morgan Olson & the rest is history. Every aftermarket nut, bolt, chrome strip, and OEM accessory one could ever need to spruce these trucks up is still produced and sold by a company called Mill Supply. Here’s a link: https://www.millsupply.com/stepvan-parts/ -1978 GMC P35 Chassis: The aluminum Olson body rests on a 1978 GMC P35 chassis. Whats great about this is that parts are CHEAP, & PLENTIFUL if the need should arise. Brakes, fasteners, whatever. It’s GM and millions of these parts were made & are still made today. -Drivetrain: The engine, like the chassis, is GM made as well. It is a straight six, 292 engine (There was a smaller 250 straight six too) and has been refereed to as "The Diesel" of gas engines due to it’s simplicity & reliability. The 292 makes gobs of torque and is mated to a 4 speed manual transmission. Basically a 3 speed w/ an ultra low, wall-crawling granny gear. It sits on a One-and-a-half-ton, dual rear axle. This truck was the largest made of it’s kind. The GVWR is 19,200lbs!!! The cargo area is a true 18’ deep w/ a garage type rear roll up door. Plenty of room for lighting above w/ headroom to spare. Add an A/C unit, it’s a blank canvas. Here’s a list of things I have done with the truck in the last few months: -Tune up. Cap, rotor, plugs & wires. The engine idles smooth & runs great on the road. -Fuel pump. ($19! Mechanical pump, this is what I mean by cheap parts! Love it. Two bolts, change it yourself in ten minutes!) -Carburetor cleaned, rebuilt, AC pump circuit works great -New Driver’s side windshield & bead gasket. Safelite STILL carries this glass. Was only $269 w/ mobile install. -Six matching Michellin X-RV tires just installed -Cleaned & painted cargo area. -Rebuilt clutch & brake master cylinder. Clutch & brake fluid flushed -Greased the chassis, u-joints, etc -Installed a rubber mat type flooring The truck runs awesome, is fun to drive, has good brakes & a good clutch. All of the gauges & switches work, and the power steering works great. Headlights, brake lights, running lights are all operational. Overall it’s very mechanically sound. As for needs, here they are: ---->New carrier bearing for the drive line. It’s just old, tired & from 1978... $30 to $40 part ---->Passenger windshield is cracked but in tact. It would look great with a fresh piece of glass installed to match the new driver’s side. I have a new box of the required weatherstripping for it which will also lessen the expense. The rest of the glass is great. ---->Rear roll up door is also tired. It functions/ goes up & down but it’s old. ---->Fuel tank. The previous owner stored it without a full tank of fuel. This is bad as the exposed parts of the inner tank are steel & rust if the tanks aren’t full (protected from rust via gasoline). I have the old tank removed & kept it because it’s original. It will need to be taken to a radiator shop and boiled which will cost anywhere from $80-$150. ---->Blinker relay. The left flasher needs a new, cheap relay ---->Exhaust manifold is slightly warped. I replaced the gasket to repair an exhaust tick, but it’s still there. Common 292 manifold issue. Another new FelPro gasket included. $10,000 O.B.O. CURRENT REGISTRATION IS PAID & TITLE IN HAND! ready to go, no time to waste. THANK YOU! utilimaster stepvan steptruck work union city body TPSBoyertown Body Supreme Body Penn Body
