After seeing the indestructible Hilux Top Gear episode, I bought this pickup to build into the ultimate reliable overlanding vehicle. Against all odds I actually ended up with a GF, so I needed something with more room. The same could happen for you!! With blatant disregard for my wallet, I completed a bed off restoration, painting it the gorgeous OEM Sandstorm color from the FJ Cruiser. The PPG paint was applied by Kevin Tirpak, owner of Altered Motion custom shop (https://alteredmotion.com/). This was not a cheap paint job, and it shows. It looks like it rolled out of the showroom. I wanted to avoid perfection so I would actually use it, but it turned out so nice that I couldn’t bring myself to use it for its intended purpose. Good: While the bed was off, the fuel tank sending unit was replaced with a new genuine OEM Toyota unit. All of the bed bolts were also replaced, at a cost of over $100 in just hardware. The starter was also replaced with a reman genuine OEM Toyota unit. The front bumper was replaced with an ARB bumper, equipped with a 9k lb Tabor winch (made by Warn). The rear bumper was replaced with a custom plate bumper. During the restoration, the front fenders, passenger door, and tailgate were all replaced, due to cosmetic flaws. The previous owner replaced the radio with an Alpine unit, and installed Alpine Type S speakers front and rear. Its never seen a winter in my hands, and I had it undercoated just as a preventative measure. Bad: It’s a ~30 year old truck with a quarter million on the clock, and you should expect as much. It’s a Toyota, at the end of the day. E-brake handle (on dash) is a little loose and sometimes causes the light to come on on the dash. The CEL has come on a few times, showing code 42, for the Vehicle Speed Sensor, since the speedo doesn’t work. I just used a GPS instead. Common issue if you Google it. Still passed Echeck no problem before I put historical tags on it. The exterior of the truck is a conservative 9.5/10. Given the age of the truck, I can’t imagine you’ll find a nicer example. The interior is a 7/10. There are a few cracks in the dash, the driver’s seat has a bit of wear, etc. Mechanically I’d rate it a 9/10. It starts right up every time and hasn’t let me down. I’d drive it anywhere tomorrow. Partial trades I could be interested in: CBI hybrid rear bumper for 3rd gen 4Runner Icon Stage 5 Coilovers for 3rd gen 4Runner Nice AR-10
